Reverend Blair Fields

Born in Virginia, Blair majored in Theology and Music at the University of Virginia. He then received his Masters of Divinity Degree at Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago, Illinois. Serving as an ordained pastor since June 1983 in Virginia, Indiana, and Kentucky, Pastor Blair has led the Hopeful family since 1996. Blair has been married to his wife Barb for 31 years. They have 3 grown children: Caitlin, Jeb, and Taylor.

Kelly Mongoven

Kelly was born and raised in Fort Myers, Florida. She has her Bachelor of Social Work degree from Florida State University and Master of Arts in Youth Ministry from Memphis Theological Seminary and the Center for Youth Ministry Training. Before accepting the call of Associate Pastor at Hopeful, Kelly worked as a social worker and served churches in Birmingham, Alabama and Fort Myers, Florida. In her spare time, Kelly enjoys yoga, hiking and watching The West Wing.

Judi Kretzmann

Born in Pennsylvania, Judi helped envision and create Hopeful's preschool, currently serving two-year old through pre-kindergarten children. Judi received her Early Childhood Education Director Certificate and CDA from Gateway Community College. Judi is married to Kurt Kretzmann and has 5 children: Joe, Sarah, Aaron, Gina, and Amy.

Debi Kennedy

Being a “military brat”, Debi has lived all over the U.S and Europe and has attended many different Missouri Synod Lutheran churches and schools. She met her husband Sean while attending Orange Lutheran High School in Orange, California. After graduating from Chapman University in Southern California with a B.A. in Social Sciences, she and her husband relocated for his job to the Northern Kentucky area in 2001 and are currently living in Hebron. They have 2 daughters, Caitlyn and Natalie.

Church Council Members

Jason Bivins

Born in Owensboro, KY, Jason was raised in a Southern Baptist church. After attending college at the University of Kentucky and Virginia Tech, Jason moved around quite a bit for work as an Environmental Engineer. He met his wife, Susan Bivins, in NC where they adopted their children Ava and Gus and then moved back to KY to be closer to friends and family. An opportunity to purchase a small business brought them to the NKY area. After attending services at numerous churches in the area, they found their home at Hopeful. In addition to the role of President at HLC, Jason also is a member of the fiscal team.

Sarah Tanner

Born and raised in Boone County, Sarah grew up in Hebron Lutheran Church. She attended college at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green (Go Hilltoppers!), and moved back to Northern Kentucky in 2002. Sarah has a daughter, Jaleigh, and they began attending Hopeful Lutheran in 2011. Sarah currently serves as Vice President of the church council, is involved with the personnel team, teaches Sunday School and serves as the Ministry/Outreach Team Leader. Sarah enjoys staying active in her spare time. She leads boot camp classes for Melody's Lifestyle and Fitness and has a love/hate relationship with running. She has completed several half marathons and likes to bike.

James Kegley

While born in Morehead KY, James moved to Northern Kentucky at an early age. He grew up Catholic and attended Catholic schools for 12 years. James left Northern Kentucky to attend Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois where he graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Construction Management. After graduation, James returned home to join the family building business. Several years later, James met his wife Jennifer and began attending Hopeful Church. They have one son named Paul. At Hopeful, James serves as Treasurer and is the Chairman of the Fiscal team.

Susan Bivins

Born is Saginaw, MI and raised outside of Niagara Falls, NY, Susan did not have a religious background. She started attending church after she graduated from Michigan State University and continued once she met her husband Jason. She got baptized shortly after she and Jason got married. Jason and Susan have two adopted children, Ava and Gus, whom Susan calls true gifts from God. Jason and Susan reside in the Florence area and own a small business in Erlanger, KY. Susan is involved with many of the children's activities at Hopeful Lutheran Church including Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and Mom's night out.

Carla Donithan

Born in Dallas, Texas, Carla moved to Northern Kentucky in 1996.  She has been a member of Hopeful Lutheran Church for over 15 years. She and her husband Randall have five children and five grandchildren. Carla has an associate’s degree in para-professional education and works as an Account Executive for a global shipping company.  Carla has served on church council in the past and currently serves as Church Council Secretary.

Chris Gladwell

Originally from Virginia, Chris has lived in Kentucky since 1988 and in Boone County since 2002. Chris has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Kentucky and a Bachelor of Science in Aviation from Eastern Kentucky University. He currently works for Flight Safety International as a pilot instructor. Chris, his wife Sara, and daughter Cate have been attending Hopeful since 2004. Currently, Chris is the leader of the youth and family team.

Chuck Freeman

Chuck Freeman is a Chemical Engineer who relocated from Vermont to the Cincinnati area to manage a laboratory at his employer's North American headquarters. He and his family chose to live in Kentucky because their elder child was selected for enrollment in Hopeful's successful preschool program. The Tennessee born son of a Southern Baptist Sunday School teacher and an Elder says it is the first time he ever moved to a church - not a job.

Josh Torres

Born in Gary, IN, Josh was raised in the Southern Baptist and Nazarene churches. In 1999, while in his freshmen year at Indiana University, Josh enlisted in the U.S. Army reserves as a Military Police Officer. He has served three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. Coincidently, the Army led him to meet his wife, Rachel, in 2004 and they later wed in 2007. They found their Hopeful family in 2009. They were blessed with a son in 2010 and a daughter in 2012. Josh has served on the church council since January 2016 and serves on the Ministry Team.

John Meier

Born and raised in Independence, KY, John has been a lifetime member of Hopeful Lutheran Church being baptized, confirmed and married at Hopeful. He attended the University of Kentucky and graduated from Thomas More College in 1988 with a B.A. in Business Administration. John has worked in the financial services industry for over 30 years for local, regional, national, and international companies. In 1990, John married his wife Missy, an R.N. at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Edgewood. They have three grown children Bryce, Shelby, and Brit. John also serves on the Ministry Team.

Bryant Hunger

Born in Madison, Indiana, Bryant was raised in Lutheran and Presbyterian Churches in southeastern Indiana. He graduated from Hanover College in 2010 with History and German degrees. It was in Hanover that he met his wife, Lisa, and in 2012 they were wed. He currently works for the Kentucky State Police as an Arson Investigator. They found their Hopeful Family in 2015 and were blessed with a daughter in 2016. Bryant has served on church council since January 2017 and serves on the Fiscal and Worship teams.

Loeta Potter

Born in Northern Kentucky, Loeta has attended Hopeful Lutheran Church for 15 years. Loeta graduated from Southern Illinois University with a bachelor degree in Speech Pathology and from Northern Kentucky University with a Masters and a Rank 1 in Administration. She is retired after 39 years of teaching. She and her husband, Steve, have three children, Angela England, Stephanie Wichmann, and Tyler Potter along with four grandchildren. Loeta has been involved with the Hopeful preschool board for several years and currently serves as Board Chair. She has also worked with the mom’s group and serves on the Ministry team.

Cindy Rigsby

Originally from Peoria, IL, Cindy moved to Northern KY with her husband Terry in 2005. They have 3 kids, Ryan, Ross and Reese. She has attended Hopeful Lutheran Church since 2006. She graduated from University of Illinois with a degree in Business Management and currently works as a Business Manager for Wing Eyecare. She enjoys music, cooking and spending time with family. Cindy serves on the Worship Team.

Shelley Walters

Shelley Walters was born and raised in NKY. She grew up attending Baptist churches with her grandmother until she attended Hopeful Lutheran Church as an adult and quickly knew it was where she belonged. She is a Registered Nurse and employed at Tri-State Oral Surgery. Shelley is married to a lifelong member and ancestor of the founding members of Hopeful, Ryan Walters. They have 3 children Nolan (15), Sara (8), and Kinley (5). Shelley currently serves on the Youth and Family ministry team and teaches Sunday School and Children's Church. Shelley enjoys camping, gardening, traveling to any beach and watching her children plays sports.

Harold Dringenburg

Harold was born in his Grandfather Tanner's house in Florence, Kentucky, which stood in what is now the north bound lane of I-75 at Ky .18. He became a baptized member of Hopeful in September of 1935 and has attend Hopeful regularly ever since. Harold attended The University of Cincinnati evening College of Engineering. He first served on church council in 1958 and has served on the cemetery board continuously since 1959. Harold lives in Florence with his wife Nancy. He can share a lot of pleasant stories about his experiences at Hopeful and how they have helped him on his life’s journey.

Nolan Walters

Born in Hampton, VA, on the Langley Air Force base, Nolan moved to Northern Kentucky when he was three. Soon after, he began attending services at Hopeful and later graduated from Hopeful’s Preschool. Currently a student at Conner High School, Nolan plans to graduate and attend college before serving in the military. Nolan is a direct descedent of some of Hopeful’s founding members and is an 8th generation member of the church. He currently serves as the Youth Advisor to the church council.
